A Clinical Experience of Thumb Reconstruction

Abstract
The thumb is absolutely necessary for grasping and pinching function of the hand, and it forms about 4006 of hand function and 20¢¥o of human function.
Hence, in the cases of congenital or traumatic absence of the thumb, loss of sensory and severely conttracted web should be reconstructed for regaining of hand function according to the condition of the thumb and report the results in this paper.
1. Six cases out of eight cases were amputation injuries, one case was wringer injury and one case was contracted first web space by burn.
2. Among the six cases of amputation injureies, four cases were fresh injureies and the remains were old. Four cases of fresh amputation injureies were replanted. Two cases out of four cases were survive and the remains were failed. The failed cases were reconstructed by debridement of the necrotized soft tissue and pedicle graft, Two cases old amputation injureies were reconstructed by toe to thumb and neurovascular dorsalis pedis flap with iliac bone graft.
3. The wringer injury of the thumb was reconstructed by pedicle; graft and severely contracted first web space was reconstructed by neurovascular dorsalis pedis flap.
4. All the cases obtained rather satisfactory result.
